About Priya Kapoor & This Site
Welcome. I’m Priya Kapoor, and this site is built for Indian couples who are thinking about the practical side of starting a family — from the first weeks of pregnancy to the moment you unlock the door of a home that truly fits your growing life.
My path here wasn’t a straight line. I began my career as a fertility awareness educator, helping women understand their cycles, navigate the emotional rollercoaster of trying to conceive, and advocate for themselves in doctors’ offices. That work shaped me: it taught me to listen deeply, to never shy away from hard conversations, and to respect just how much courage it takes to build a family on your own terms.
But I kept noticing something. The women I supported rarely stopped asking questions once they saw a positive pregnancy test. Instead, a new wave of uncertainty would surface — Is our apartment big enough? Can we afford a child in this city? Which neighborhoods have good schools, safe parks, and a commute that won’t drain us? Those questions stayed with me long after my one-on-one sessions ended.
That curiosity pushed me to study urban planning and family housing patterns, first informally and then through hands-on research across Indian cities. I realized that the journey from “trying to conceive” to “expecting” naturally opens up a whole new set of practical decisions — and almost no one was talking about them in a clear, grounded way. So I started writing about the full arc: from preparing your body for pregnancy to choosing a neighborhood where your family can truly put down roots.
What this site is — and isn’t
This site started as a fertility guide, born from my own experience and the stories of countless women. But as our community grew, so did our conversations. Readers began asking about budgeting for a baby, space requirements, and whether it was time to move. We listened. Today, you’ll find articles that bridge family planning with practical housing guidance — everything from early pregnancy health to in-depth guides on Indian cities, local property markets, and family-friendly neighborhoods.
We don’t do clickbait or generic advice. Every recommendation is grounded in research, real-world experience, and a genuine desire to help you make informed choices. Whether you’re still trying to conceive, already expecting, or simply dreaming about the future, you’ll find resources that meet you where you are.
Why the name Black Girls Guide to Fertility?
You might wonder about the domain name. It’s a nod to where this journey began — a space originally created to support Black women navigating fertility. While our content has evolved to serve a broader audience, especially Indian families, that name remains as a reminder of our roots and the trust we’ve built. Today, our readers are diverse, but the core mission is unchanged: to provide honest, compassionate guidance for the biggest decisions in family life.
A few things I believe
- Planning ahead isn’t cold — it’s loving. Thinking about schools, commutes, and budgets before your baby arrives is one of the most caring things you can do.
- No two families are alike. What works for a couple in Mumbai won’t necessarily work for one in Kochi. We respect local context.
- Information should be clear, not overwhelming. You won’t find jargon-filled reports here — just straight talk and actionable steps.
I’m glad you’re here. Whether you’re just starting to think about a family or already mapping out nursery colors, I hope this site helps you feel a little more prepared and a lot less alone.
